Fiat 500 2015: Retro Benchmark

We have here a vehicle who lines combine a retro look with a modern twist, allowing the car to continue to stand out in traffic as it has done ever since it arrived on the market. This is also a model lineup that offers plenty of choice in terms of customization and engine offerings. There's even a convertible version, although for the moment we will focus on the hard-top model.

That’s because there is quite a bit to say! First, you must know that what distinguishes the Fiat 500 above all is the amount of fun it provides its driver on a winding road, combined with the fact that it is incredibly agile and easy to drive in the city. It really is a car that goes almost everywhere. When it’s time to park, it's even easier given the Fiat’s small turning radius and an great visibility due to its large windows.

Although it has been on the marker for a few years now, the Fiat 500 is still turning heads. It is also possible to add unique design touches like the wheels that bring back memories of the Fiats of the 50s, or stripes on the hood and the rear in the colors of Italy. In short, standing out is not a problem with the 2015 Fiat 500.

Passing or accelerating isn’t either, especially if you opt for the turbo engines offered with the small city car. But in fact, even the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine developing 101 horsepower and 98 lb-ft of torque does the job well. Because of the model’s reduced weight, it’s enough to propel the 500 with confidence. This engine is offered in the Pop, Sport and Lounge versions.

At the other end of the spectrum, there is the high-performance Fiat Abarth. Its 1.4-liter turbo engine develops 160 horsepower while releasing a powerful and growl. Very pleasant. Note also that the Abarth is quite a bit of fun to drive because of the car’s sport-tuned dynamics.

Between the Abarth and the base engine, there is the 500 Turbo, the latest model. Developing 135 horsepower, the output is not that far off the Abarth, and because the weight is just 1,124 kg, there is quite a bit of performances to go around.
